Description

Top Seller!

Universal fit.  Tough.  Very High Torque.  Very durable design.
Available in 24V Super Duty

extended cranking (/ec models). High Efficiency Wound Field Motors. Light Weight - only 9.3 lbs.  Replaces nearly all original equipment starters on non-geared Lycoming engine-powered aircraft*.  Now used by Lycoming as factory OEM on most aircraft manufacturers' engines.

* Will not fit newer C206 (those take a factory OEM Sky-Tec 149-24PM) or any B60 aircraft (those take a Sky-Tec 149-24HT).

The original High-Torque is where it all started with Sky-Tec.  Now with internal, self-resetting kickback protection.  Also available in  24V Super Duty, extended cranking (/ec models).  High Efficiency Wound Field Motors.  Perfect for helicopter, bush plane and workhorse operations requiring a rugged design, maximum reliability & service life.  Designed to spin the prop twice as fast during start. Environmentally sealed case.  Rugged all metal gears.  All steel ball bearings. Heavy-duty drive.  The Original Flyweight™  is also the lightest toughweight in the business.  Newly improved strontium-fortified alloy casting.  The best value in Lycoming replacement starters. Hi-torque, permanent magnet motors.  Ultra light weight.  High Performance.  Save up to 10 pounds under OEM heavyweight starters.  Twice as fast as old, heavyweight OEM starters.  Faster spin = easier engine starts. Especially improves hot engine start performance.

Find the recommended starter for your aircraft

The new High-Torque Inline starter is the recommended starter for just about any flat, non-geared Lycoming piston engine application.  Order the new SuperDuty NL/ec version for 24 volt aircraft or the #1 selling NL for 12 volt aircraft.  Especially easy to fit for short-wing Pipers, retractable Cessnas, helicopters, rugged operations and harsh environments or applications with minimal clearance in front of and around the starter.  /ec starters have been independently tested to repeatedly demonstrate over seven minutes of combined cranking in a nine minute period! Shear pin protected against kickback.

The time-tested HT Models continue to be a top seller in applications such as helicopter fleet ops needing additional ruggedness, performance and reliability.  It has also been improved with both the /ec SuperDuty motor system as well as tougher, beefier mount castings for maximum performance in the toughest applications.  The noseless design makes it a good fit for many tight cowling applications and its performance makes it the original starter of choice for large engine applications (Lycoming 720 series-powered aircraft).  The HT's performance characteristics are nearly identical to those of the High-Torque Inline listed in the chart above.

The LS/PM models are the flagship of the Sky-Tec product family.  They are identical to each other in composition and performance, however  LS models have the solenoid located toward the left side of the aircraft and the PM models have the solenoid located toward the right side of the aircraft.  Select the right model for your aircraft based on the location of accessories around your starter using the fit guide.  When unsure, purchase the High-Torque Inline starter - it WILL fit!

Our Lycoming LS, PM & HT starters also feature an integrated starter solenoid for homebuilt applications not wishing to install a separate firewall solenoid. Click here for details.

  Why Buy Sky-Tec

 - No. 1.  While following a crowd may not be sound justification for everything, there must be a reason almost 100,000+ customers (and thousands more every month) continue to choose Sky-Tec!

- No Bendix.  Period.  Do your research and you will see - starters with Bendix drives are inferior and prone to failure.

 - Proven.  Even our newest designs are time proven to be the most reliable in the industry.  We try to incorporate as much automotive technology as possible in our designs.  Contrary to the ramblings of our competitors, we believe in leveraging experience across industries.  Would you rather have a design rooted and proven in millions of automobiles or a new design created from scratch from a single aerospace company in a vacuum?

 - Smarter Engineering.  We engineer smarter - use of lighter weight materials, stronger components and innovative features you cannot find elsewhere.

 - All we do is starters.  We know what we're doing and we sincerely want to provide you the best product we can.  And we'll stand behind them 100%!

 - We're pilots and aircraft owners too.  We appreciate sound engineering, knowledgeable customer service and a manufacturer that respects the limited budget of the average weekend flyer.  Cl costs and service levelompare our repair/overhaus to any and we think you'll be a customer for life!

"It's all ball bearings these days"

Has someone suggested you make sure your starter has all ball bearings?  We agree, ball bearings are good, but here are the facts.  There are no side-loads on the rear of the starter motor or drive shaft on our LS & PM starters.  Ball bearings aren't necessary with an advanced design like the LS/PM (ask our repair department - they have yet to see a single failure due to a lack of ball bearings).  If your particular application requires a ball-bearing supported shaft in your aircraft, then we suggest you consider the HT or HTI high-torque Inline (NL) models which are all ball bearing designs.

30,000+ High-Torque Inline Lycoming starters now in use world wide

Thanks to its rugged, compact, Inline configuration, the NL starter has fit just about every aircraft with a non-geared, Lycoming engine without any modification.  It is especially well-suited for:

 - Cessna Cardinals

 - Mooney M20J's

 - C172 model M thru L

 - RG Cessnas

 - All Short-Wing Pipers

 - Air-Conditioned Piper

   Singles

 - Rugged operating

   conditions

 - Helicopters

 - Charter Operators

 - Voltage-challenged

   applications

 - Weekend Flyers who

   want only the BEST!
